The strangest things...

Well, I've lost 19 pounds so far!!! I'm so happy! I hope that the rate at which I'm losing weight continues. However, I hit a plateau this past weekend, so I had to change my routine a bit. Let's cross our fingers, and see if it works!

With this new eating lifestyle, I've had to cut out a LOT of foods I used to eat hamburgers (my friends and family all know how much I love those), pizza, french fries, hot dogs... basically fast food in general. And I have no regrets giving up those things. However, I keep having dreams that I am stuffing my face with them!! How strange is that?!? Eating junk food is my new nightmare! Never thought I'd see the day. Makes me miss my old nightmares a little bit. But, the first week in March is when I can add more variety to my eating plan, like cheese, bread, etc. Too bad I'll miss the age-old tradition of eating to excess this year for Fat Tuesday, but maybe I'll put some Paczki's in the freezer for later?!? ::angel face:: It's so funny. Everyone at work wants me to try their new dishes, and I keep telling them that I can't eat hardly anything until the first week of March. They were so sweet, and said they would freeze the dish for me until that time!! I was flattered! :-D

I came across an interesting website today that I think everyone should look at:

http://food.yahoo.com/blog/yahoofreshpicks/2738/the-best-and-worst-fast-food-french-fries/

It's basically an article about how much fat is in fast food french fries. They had another on about hamburgers, but I couldn't find it again. It really makes you think twice about getting fast food... everyday... for almost every meal... yeah I was at that point, people.

It's so scary to think of myself as "health conscious", but I'm really trying to turn my life around. I'm doing my best not to listen to the people who still have their doubts about what I'm doing and how I'm doing it, but everyday it's gets a little easier to ignore them... until one day I would have ignored them completely. It's times like these you really find out who you can turn to and count on for support...

What's more important: the means or the end??

Update: I lost another 2 pounds! Well, actually it was more like 9 pounds, but after I lost the first like 7, I gained it back because I was retaining water. Oh joy. I'm feeling pretty good. I've got energy for days, but sometimes I choose not to use it, which is not always the best thing.

I'm trying this new diet that my co-worker hooked me on, and it is working wonders. I'm seeing results after the first three days!! I'm really confident I will reach my goal with time to spare. It's not the most popular of diets, and I don't recommend it to anyone just yet. I want to see if there are any side effects before I go and tell the ones I love about it. The important thing will be AFTER I'm done losing all the weight I want to lose. I already decided that my lifestyle had to change significantly, and I'm ready!

Streamline in '09

Well, it's finally 2009. Hasta la vista, 2008!!! We shall miss you... ummmm sort of... :-P

With this time of year comes all the weight loss ads: magazines, tv commercials, online pop-ups for diet pills... you name it! I love it. The timing is perfect. A lot of people are making the new years resolution to lose weight this year, which is awesome. But, what compels people to start losing weight now, instead of months ago? Personally, I think that if you make the new years resolution to lose weight, you are doom to fail. A fresh, new start should be made anytime! Why wait until the first of the year. I've tried many times to lose weight starting on the first of January. I would be dooped into getting a gym membership, puchasing pills and diet plans, various workout equipment and tapes. Trust me, I have the stockpile to prove it. But in all honesty, in my heart I felt that stuff would never work for me, so I never really seriously used any of it. All the gym memberships and diet pills and workout videos mean nothing unless you want to use them, and you want to use them properly.

Losing weight is a serious thing. It's not a fad, it's not a promise you should arbitrarily make to yourself, or make just because everyone else is doing it. This is a serious, life-altering experience. If you really want it, you will start, but start when YOU are ready. Not when the mass media says you are. Because 9 times out of 10 you are not, and you are setting yourself up to fail. Don't waste your money on fad diets and pills and gym memberships just because they are on sale. Work up the courage and the strength to start, and then, START!!

I wasn't personally ready to start losing some serious weight for a long time. I was always listening to people who wanted to start, and I would just start with them. And then quit when they would. I fell into the "fad diet" trap, and paid the price, financially. Not anymore. I know what I have to do, and I am doing it... and I feel great!

I weigh myself tomorrow. Cross those fingers... and to those who are trying to lose weight: Good luck, and remember to take it slow, and do what is best for you. :-D
